Keep offerings clean
Offer only food that has been kept clean and away from animals, and flowers that have been kept in a clean vessel.
To keep to this, cook with clean hands in a clean place and cover the food until it is offered. The Nectar of Devotion, quoting the Varāha Purāṇa, lists offering food that dogs or other animals have seen among the offenses to avoid, and in the same spirit warns against offering a flower kept in an unclean pot.
