Bathe before you serve the Deity
Bathe, and wash your hands and feet, before you touch the Deity or serve on the altar.
Serving the Deity is an intimate service, and it asks for a clean body and a calm mind. The Nectar of Devotion lists touching the Deity before bathing, and entering the temple without washing the hands and feet, among the offenses to avoid.
